In English has 5 basic tenses, and we must understand all of 5 basic tenses, that is:

  1. Present Continuous Tense.
  2. Simple Present Tense.
  3. Present Future Tense.
  4. Simple Past Tense.
  5. Present Perfect Tense.

Explanation:

  1. Present Continuous Tense.

Use for to explain about something who happening in present time.

Formula          : S + to be (are, am, is ) + Ving

Example         : “I am waiting for the bus now.”

  1. Simple Present Tense.

Use for to explain about habitual action.

Formula          : a. S + to be ( are, am, is ) + ….

                          b. S + Verb + ….

Example         : “I wait for the bus everyday.”

  1. Present Future Tense.

      Use for to explain about something who will happen or will do in future.

      Formula          : a. S + Shall/Will + be + ….

                                b. S + Shall/Will + Verb + ….

      Example         : “I will wait for the bus leter.”

  1. Simple Past Tense.

Use for to explain about something who happen in past time.

Formula          : a. S + to be ( was/were ) + ….

                          b. S + V2 + ….

Example         : “I waited for the bus everyday.”

  1. Present Perfect Tense.

Use for to explain about something who happen since past and to go on keep at until now, or to explain about something in this time has finished.

Formula          : S + Have/Has + V3

Example         : “I have waited for the bus for 15 minutes.”

Actually total of tense in English no fewer than 14 types. It just composite or combination of 5 basic tenses. Look at this!

o       Future Continuous Tense

o       Future Perfect Tense

o       Past Future Tense

o       Past Perfect Future Tense

o       Past Continuous Tense

o       Past Perfect Tense

o       Present Perfect Continuous Tense

o       And so on

The application of tense will be easy if we understand 5 basic tense perfectly.
